Bitcoin: Digital Gold

For the first time in history, 1 Bitcoin is now worth more than an ounce of gold.

As predicted, a bitcoin now, at least briefly, was worth more than an ounce of gold, reaching $ 1239.9 on the Bitstamp bitcoin exchange, while an ounce of gold cost $ 1238.67. The last time that a single bitcoin could have been worth more than an ounce of gold happened in November 2013, more than three years ago. Regardless of what happened in 2013, with the possible manipulation of Mt Gox, the price of gold in terms of bitcoin is now trading at an all-time low.

When, according to Mt. Gox, the price of bitcoin exceeded that of an ounce of gold, it had just broken the $ 1,000 limit. Likewise, the price of bitcoin crossed the $ 1,000 mark on January 1 before the gold-bitcoin parity in the first week of January 2017.

In April 2011, bitcoin made parity with the U.S. dollar. It later reached silver parity at approximately $ 29.65 per bitcoin on February 19, 2013.
